Cu corrosion in supernatant and sedimentation of bentonite slurry containing chloride

摘要Cu corrosion in aerated NaCl solution containing different bentonite content was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and surface analysis techniques. In NaCl solution, Cu corrosion proceeds with CuClads formation and its transformation to Cu2O. The outer deposit layer consists of Cu2O and Cu2(OH)3Cl. The self-catalyzed comproportionation reaction between Cu and CuClx(x- 2)- produces CuClx(x- 1)- , leading to accelerated Cu corrosion. Bentonite slurry (10-30 wt%) shows supernatant and sedimentation layers. In supernatant layer, Cu corrosion happens with the help of anions dissolved from bentonite minerals. In sedimentation layer, Cu corrosion is hindered due to suppressed cathodic reaction and the self-catalyzed comproportionation reaction.
